Proceeds will go to buy land for the Expansion of The Fayetteville National Cemetery, one of only 147 National Cemeteries in the entire country, opened in 1867. Since 1984, the non-profit Regional National Cemetery Improvement Corporation has raised money to purchase and clear land to expand Fayetteville National Cemetery. The purchases, since turned over to federal government, have more than tripled the size of the Cemetery. But Fayetteville National Cemetery gets closer to full every day and more land is needed to honor those who have served. The Veterans Memorial 5K is our largest fundraiser.
Water will be provided along the course and road crossings are guarded. The 5K course will begin near the entrance to the Fayetteville National Cemetery, 700 S. Government Blvd., and begins by circling the Cemetery and uses the Fayetteville Trail System. Click for more detail at: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6436859
